The Education & Outreach Committee is excited to offer a unique opportunity for undergraduate student to learn about the planning profession. The Exploring Careers program was developed by APA-NC to connect currently enrolled undergraduate students with practicing planners. Each student participant in the program is paired with a planner. The program provides materials to guide conversation about what it is like to be a planner.
How to Participate:
EPC is based on the collegiate academic calendar. We will be seeking student and planner participants during the summer for the ensuing school year. Students should be currently enrolled in a two-year or four-year, degree seeking program at an accredited university in North Carolina. Planners should be working in the field of planning, which includes public sector and private sector practice as well as academic positions.
At the beginning of the academic year, the committee will select a planner for placement with each student. Efforts are made to match students and planners according to interest and geography. Depending on the size of the student and planner cohorts, students may be offered the opportunity to meet with multiple planners over the course of the year.
Documents and Forms:
The following flyer is a printable and sharable PDF that provides an overview of EPC. Planners and educators are encouraged to share the flyer with students, planners, planning organizations, and academic programs that may be interested in the program. The sign-up forms will be available for the 2021-2022 academic year starting on July 26.
