Current Planner - Development Review
New Hanover County
Wilmington, NC United States
This newly created associate-level position works as part of the development review division of the New Hanover County Planning & Land Use Department to ensure consistent and proper application of the County development ordinance to projects submitted for review and processing. The unincorporated portions of New Hanover County are some of the most developed in North Carolina and, due to a steadily growing population attracted to the many cultural and environmental features of the Wilmington area, our jurisdiction is transitioning from rural and low-density residential development to a more suburban and urban pattern. Duties include reviewing development proposals and site plans for compliance and plan consistency, conducting field investigations, interacting with the public, and presenting staff reports and other information to boards and key stakeholder groups.
An ideal candidate for this position would be someone familiar with the different stages of the zoning and subdivision application processes, North Carolina development regulation authorities, and natural resource protection and who is looking for an opportunity to shape a growing suburban built environment.
