Duties and Responsibilities
The City of Brevard Planning Department is a small but busy and multifaceted team which is currently looking for their newest team member. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a fast-paced environment where your work will cross all disciplinary boundaries from zoning administration to long-range planning, developing a wide breadth of knowledge. Responsibilities may include managing city projects, negotiating easements and overseeing the construction of greenway trails, as well as floodplain development, grant writing, code enforcement, preparing reports for City Council, Planning Board, Board of Adjustment and various committees, and giving presentations at public meetings. The position will also review and evaluate development plans and subdivision plats, interpret and apply the Unified Development Ordinance and other regulations, offer consultations to developers and citizens helping them to make good decisions about the use of their property while safeguarding our natural resources. Throughout our work, we strive to make connections between people, places, urban form, nature, and the built environment by continually evaluating and updating adopted plans and refining land use regulations and Code of Ordinances. The department relies on teamwork to work toward common goals and encourages independent thinking and initiative and the ability to use theoretical and practical aspects of urban planning to benefit the organization and the citizenry at large.

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in with a degree in planning, public administration or related field and experience in municipal planning, zoning administration or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree and ACIP preferred. Special Requirements: NC Driver’s License; Ability to obtain Certified Zoning Official and Certified Floodplain Administrator within 4 years of employment.
