Business and Strategy Manager

The Business & Strategy Manager is devoted to managing and ensuring the full success of the department’s communication and engagement, business strategy, fiscal management, and technology solutions. This is a dynamic position reporting to the Planning and Development Director. The successful candidate will be well-rounded in the areas of community engagement and strategic business management. Incumbents supervise professional, paraprofessional and support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, and discipline and termination procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage business processes including departmental technical software systems, report generation/maintenance, technical systems evaluations/enhancements
- In addition, the Development Services Manager may be responsible for serving as the key liaison with the City’s I.T. Department
- Manage communications/web content including updating/maintaining the department’s webpages, forms, and applications, engaging in outreach/communications with stakeholders, citizens, external organizations, and other City departments
- Provide scoped project management; metrics evaluations, monitoring, and enhancements; investigations and resolutions pertaining to delayed projects and scoped citizen concerns, and coordination on special projects
- Collects and manages performance metric data on efficiency and effectiveness for key metrics relevant to department success
- Serves as the primary lead and/or a team member on department or City-wide special projects as assigned
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in planning, engineering, architecture, building construction or directly related field, with eight years of relevant experience in either local government or the private sector is required
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation
Licensing/Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Additional Information
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the Microsoft suite of products. Prefer the candidate also possess knowledge of Peoplesoft, HCM and EnerGov.
