Senior Planner

The City of Raleigh is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Senior Planner who will be devoted to paraprofessional and professional support of municipal planning for a variety of operations and functions. This position would be a part of the Land Development Division of the Planning and Land Development Department.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing program and/or project management, planning and analytical support in the area of assignment. May serve as lead planner in monitoring and facilitating the progression of site plans through the development review process up to and including the issuance of entitlements. In addition, advises City staff, Boards/ Commissions, the general public, and others on land use development and subdivision matters
- Providing consulting and advanced technical support related to assigned site development, project or planning functions; identifies opportunities to increase efficiencies in the development review process; serves as technical representative and consultant providing information and solutions to address development issues and needs
- Reviewing complex development plans for compliance with ordinances and plans and providing considerable guidance in advising design professionals on the consistency of their interests with City of Raleigh plans and policies
- Coordinating, attending, and facilitating meetings; preparing agendas and technical materials; reviewing plan status and timelines; prioritizing plan review benchmarks
- Preparing and presenting planning and development-related reports and technical program information to, Boards/Commissions, and internal and external stakeholders and groups; provides technical consultation and serves as a liaison by providing information and responding to requests
- Identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining processes and practices that encourage, support and promote effective, communications with the general public
- Assisting in Departmental business planning including budget development, preparation, and administration
- Reviewing Site Plans, Preliminary Subdivisions, Infrastructure Improvement Plans and Building Permit Plans for compliance with the City’s Unified Development Ordinance
- Providing consultation on land acquisition for the City of Raleigh
- Preparing staff reports for subdivisions in Raleigh’s Historic Districts, conveying site development information to the Raleigh Historic Districts Commission
- Evaluating and categorizing land use activity under the Unified Development Ordinance
- Evaluating and analyzing rezoning requests and zoning conditions
- Evaluating submittal packages for compliance with public notice requirements
- Serving as liaison with design professionals, applicants, City officials, and Board/Commission members
