The City of Raleigh is on the lookout for two (2) dynamic Senior Planners to join our Zoning Team within the Planning and Development Department. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the community by ensuring the highest standards of land use and zoning compliance for residential and small-commercial projects.

What You'll Do:
As a Senior Planner, you'll play a pivotal role in reviewing and guiding plans for single-family homes, duplexes, townhouses, residential expansions, and small commercial projects. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring these projects align with the City's Unified Development Ordinance. You’ll collaborate closely with diverse teams across the department, including Customer Service and Building and Safety, to deliver exceptional service and innovative solutions.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Evaluate projects to ensure compliance with the City’s Unified Development Ordinance
  • Oversee and guide the progression of plans through the development review process, from initial submission to the issuance of entitlements.
  • Identify and implement strategies to enhance the development review process, bringing innovative solutions and streamlining operations to better serve the community.
  • Act as the main contact for developers, design professionals, and City staff, facilitating effective communication and collaboration
  • Prepare and present technical information to various stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain processes that promote clear and supportive communication with the public, ensuring transparency and responsiveness in all interactions
  • Assist in the Department’s business planning, including budget development and administration, contributing to the overall success and efficiency of the Planning and Development Department

 

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in planning or public administration or field directly related to assignment and three years of related professional planning experience

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Positions in this class typically require: fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
 
Sedentary Work: 
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
 
Working Conditions:
Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
