The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join our Transit team in our Raleigh headquarters.
In this role you will:
- Provide intermediate-level application of engineering and planning techniques in the development and implementation of Traffic Separation Studies, Crossing Consolidation and Eliminations, other crossing safety projects and initiatives along the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor (SEHSR,) and other existing freight or existing/proposed passenger railroad lines in the State
- Assist in procurement and administration of grants and studies.
- Represent the NCDOT Rail Division in the highway scoping process by providing input on projects that may impact rail lines.
- Perform all of the work of junior engineers, but is distinguished by more intermediate duties, such as writing and reviewing technical letters, reports, special provisions, contract agreements, revisions to specifications, and reviewing and checking preliminary, intermediate and final design plans, calculations, engineering estimates or provisions to find errors/deviations from accepted engineering practices.
- Assure compliance with Federal/State statutes/guidelines on less complex projects.
- Investigate and respond to complaints/requests from the public, news media, and federal, state, railroad, and municipal officials.
What You Bring
- Experience overseeing and managing moderately-complex transportation projects and developing/managing project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and project risks.
- Experience leading teams to apply engineering principles to moderately-complex environmental and design situations, making sound recommendations and decisions, and providing guidance in designs.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and fostering communications with senior leadership, stakeholders, citizens, and among project team members.
- Knowledge of professional engineering contracts, professional engineering principles and practices of civil engineering related to Highway Design with an emphasis on project planning, environmental studies and analysis, project design, construction and maintenance methods, as they apply to the Project Delivery Process.
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel, Open Roads (CADD) and ArcGIS and drafting instruments.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and in an organized manner, orally and in written documents/reports addressing moderately-complex engineering concepts and facts.
Note
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
