Three Oaks is seeking a dynamic, highly skilled Senior Transit Planner to develop innovative transit solutions that enhance mobility, strengthen communities, and respect the environment. As a Senior Transit Planner, you will manage a wide range of meaningful transit projects with support from our growing multimodal team of active and public transportation professionals. Your expertise will help shape sustainable, equitable, and efficient local transit systems and contribute to the future of public transportation. Your typical day may include:

  • Managing transit planning projects or project tasks.
  • Developing transit plans, policies, and strategies that enhance mobility and accessibility.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, synthesize information, and develop transit solutions.
  • Conducting research and analysis to support transit planning initiatives.
  • Preparing reports and materials and presenting to diverse audiences to gather input and build consensus.
  • Communicating a range of topics using plain language, relatable examples, and easy-to-understand visuals to broad project audiences, such as government agencies, elected officials, community organizations, and the public.
  • Providing technical guidance to project team members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation, planning, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in transit planning, multimodal transportation planning, or a related field.
  • Expertise in transit planning principles, methodologies, best practices, and emerging trends.
  • Knowledge of project management principles to deliver projects on time and within scope and budget.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or contributing to transit plans, studies, and reports.
  • Familiarity with NEPA and related laws, guidance, and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with software and tools: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in transportation, planning, engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification: such as AICP, PTP, or a related certification.
  • Project management or deputy project management experience.
  • Experience in leading or contributing to FTA-funded projects, transit grant applications, or related studies.
  • Experience preparing NEPA documentation (e.g., Class of Action Checklists, CE, documented CE, EA, or EIS)
  • Proficiency with transit planning-related software (e.g., ArcGIS Online, Remix, Streetmix, Canva, or related software).
