Hiring Salary Range:  $54,022-$100,871  Full Salary Range:  $54,022 - $112,756 Annually

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00 am-5:00 pm; some occasional evenings and weekend meetings.

Brief Description of Work/Duties:

The Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) seeks to hire a Planner with demonstrated experience in Transit Planning.  The job selection process allows for the selection of a candidate at either the Planner 1, Planner 2, or Senior Planner position based on their experience and education.  This is an excellent opportunity for planners at a variety of levels to build their skill set, take on increasing responsibilities, and progress upward as a Planner while working in a dynamic and collaborative environment.  This Transit Planner position will support the development of transportation plans and programs including the Metropolitan Transportation Plan, the Transportation Improvement Program, the Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenways Master Plan, and various studies. The position will serve as a project manager for selected projects including transit plans and studies, the Better Bus Stop Program, technology projects, new transit service analysis, and pursuit of discretionary federal transit grants and state funds. The position will help integrate transit-supportive infrastructure and design elements into City/MPO and NCDOT projects and will assist with the use of transit planning methodology and software to assess route modifications and estimate associated changes to ridership, costs, and overall system performance. The position will support transit data collection and analysis activities and will analyze and process GTA on-board data for systems planning applications and for consideration in infrastructure planning. The position will also support the Technical Coordinating Committee (Staff) and the Transportation Advisory Committee (Elected Officials) business and activities with a focus on ensuring transit considerations and interests are fully represented and considered.

This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 4 or more years of experience in MPO Planning, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, or a closely related field
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

 

An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's Degree in Planning, or a closely related field
  • AICP or GISP certification (“OR”) ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Experience with ArcGIS software and tools
  • Experience with transit planning practice and methods
  • Experience with MPOs, MPO planning practice, and related regulatory requirements
  • Experience with on-board data for systems planning applications and for consideration in infrastructure planning
  • Experience interacting with transit riders and the public as part of public outreach and input initiatives and in other settings
  • Experience in a project management capacity
