The City of Jacksonville is seeking a Planner who can successfully perform intermediate professional and administrative work assisting with and implementing a variety of urban and/or long-range planning activities, while completing related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Planning and Zoning Manager or their designee.

The job selection process allows for the selection of a candidate at either the Planner 1 or Senior Planner position based on their experience and education. This is an excellent opportunity for Planners at a variety of levels to build their skill set, take on increasing responsibilities, and progress upward as a Planner, while working in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

  • Reviews development and related land use permit applications, site plans, subdivision plats, etc.
  • Examines applications for compliance with established plans and ordinances, and applicable local, state or federal regulation. 
  • Gathers, assimilates, interprets and analyzes a variety of data, requests and information pertaining to planning and zoning operations.
  • Assists with professional and administrative support to Planning Board, Board of Adjustment and City Council as required.
  • Receives, researches and processes zoning questions, requests and appeals.
  • Assists the public with applications and inquiries.
  • Prepares, issues and performs field inspections for items associated with permits.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
