Land of Sky Regional Council is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Transportation Planner & Project Manager. 

About the French Broad River MPO 

The French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization (FBRMPO) is the federally designated regional transportation planning organization for the Asheville metropolitan area and surrounding communities in Western North Carolina. The MPO brings together local governments, NCDOT, transit agencies, and other partners to plan for the region’s transportation future and make decisions about transportation priorities and investments. 

The FBRMPO’s work includes development of the region’s Metropolitan Transportation Plan and Transportation Improvement Program; identification and prioritization of highway, transit, bicycle, pedestrian, rail, and other multimodal projects; administration of federal transportation funding awarded by the MPO; regional safety and transportation data analysis; public involvement; and management of transportation planning studies requested by local governments. 

MPO staff work in a highly collaborative environment with local governments and state and federal partners on projects ranging from long-range regional planning to corridor studies, greenways, transit, roadway safety, passenger rail, and project development. The position provides an opportunity to work on transportation issues that directly affect communities throughout Western North Carolina.

Position Summary 

The Transportation Planner & Project Manager supports regional transportation planning activities for the French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and Land of Sky Regional Council, with a particular focus on managing transportation planning studies and ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, grant, and contractual requirements. The position will manage consultant-led planning studies from initiation through completion, including scopes of work, procurement, schedules, budgets, invoices, deliverables, documentation, and coordination with local governments, NCDOT, consultants, and other project partners.
